In October 2025, creative video production agency Clockwise deployed a nimble, run-and-gun film crew to capture an exclusive Duke Dumont music documentary, following the story behind the electronic music pioneer’s highly anticipated homecoming shows in London and Manchester.

DOCUMENTING A HISTORIC RETURN TO THE UK

At Clockwise, we love live music and we excel at character-driven storytelling. When Red Light Management approached us about documenting Duke Dumont’s return to the UK stage for the first time in ten years, we packed our cameras and hit the road.

Our team brings a wealth of experience in electronic music videography and tour storytelling. We specialise in capturing the raw, authentic moments that happen away from the main stage. A craft we honed collaborating with Resident Advisor on their acclaimed Between the Beats documentary series.

THE CHALLENGE: FILMMAKING FOR A CAMERA-SHY ARTIST

Every music documentary project presents unique hurdles. With Duke Dumont, the primary challenge was clear: he is notoriously camera-shy and dislikes traditional, sit-down interviews. He thrives behind the decks, not in front of a lens.

Rather than forcing a conventional format, our production team leaned into his anonymity. By prioritising his comfort, we allowed the story to unfold naturally. Ultimately, this tension became the central narrative arc of the film: Duke’s profound disconnect from the commercial music industry, contrasted with his absolute devotion to the creative process of making music.

A TAILORED PRODUCTION APPROACH

To execute this vision, we adapted our standard documentary filmmaking framework:

Minimalist Crew footprint: When filming a private artist, less is more. We stripped our crew down to a small, agile team to blend into the background.

Studio Voiceover Strategy: Instead of an on-camera Q&A, we scripted the interview themes in advance and invited Duke to record his thoughts as a voiceover in the comfort of his own studio.

This hybrid method gave Duke the space to speak candidly and granted our directors the time to shape core narrative themes before capturing on-the-fly footage on tour.

creating a nostalgic, analog visual identity

Visually, Duke wanted to avoid the polished, hyper-compressed “Instagram Reel” aesthetic. They wanted a film that stood out.

We chose a heavy VHS texture. This wasn’t just a stylistic gimmick; it tied directly into the film’s core theme of nostalgia. A homecoming tour is inherently about stepping into the past. The analog grit of the VHS format instantly transports the viewer into the collective memory of early UK rave culture, while avoiding the rose-tinted sentimentality that Duke himself wanted to bypass.

COMING UP NEXT

We are incredibly proud of the final film and the fantastic reception from both Red Light Management and Duke Dumont. The documentary has since been launched to promote his upcoming global tour dates. We are deeply grateful for the trust and creative freedom granted to Clockwise to tell this story authentically.
