When Specsavers and agency partner Golin approached us with a campaign involving Michael and Hilary Whitehall, we knew it wouldn’t be your average awareness film.

The concept was brilliant: stage a PR stunt suggesting Hilary was at her wits’ end with Michael’s hearing. The couple posted shouting matches on balconies and TVs blaring at full volume, sparking a media storm over their relationship. Once the internet took the bait, it was time for the reveal, and that’s where we came in.

Our role was to shoot the ‘explanation film’ a witty, tongue-in-cheek piece showing that the whole thing was staged to raise awareness for Specsavers’ hearing test service. We also captured some of the PR stunt content itself.

Filming took place in the Whitehalls’ living room, where our seven-person crew ran a three-camera setup with full sound. The couple were incredibly welcoming, allowing us to transform their home into a production set for the day.

The results? The social campaign racked up over 875K views on Instagram alone, with the hero film achieving above-benchmark average watch times. Organic engagement poured in as fans speculated over the couple’s supposed fallout.

Specsavers called the campaign a success, and the team shared some lovely feedback:
