Back in the depths of winter when the country was in the full grip of lockdown 2, we were in talks with long term company friends Campus Skateparks about ways in which we could make the most of a bad situation and put their empty skatepark to good use. Together we devised a new pandemic-proof competition format that would enable us to film high-quality skateboarding in a safe and controlled way, whilst still connecting with a virtual audience. Poll/Jam was born. “Having empty skateparks doesn’t sit well with us so we devised a brand new ‘pandemic proof’ event format that can be enjoyed via Instagram” @campusskateboarding Instagram The format was simple. The format was simple. This was a head to head competition whereby 2x teams of 2x skaters would have 15 minutes to skate different sections of the park. The footage for each session would be captured by members of the clockwise team and then edited down into bitesize content for the Campus Instagram channel. The films were posted and audiences invited to vote for their favourite edit via Instagram polls. We teamed up with Monster Energy who provided some prize money and invited some of the best local skaters to come and take part. In order to help the footage stand out online and add our own production, we shot the skaters at night using LED light panels for an atmospheric look. Much needed creativity It was great to be able to give the skaters the opportunity to skate the empty park especially as some of them hadn’t been able to skate indoors all winter. This format has never been tried before but the edits went down really well online, with a great response both in terms of post engagement and audience voting on the polls. The winning team Lakai managed to fend off all competition and took home the £1000 prize money. In truth, it was more about giving our creatives a chance to film some action and the skaters to let off some steam! Winners; Jason Cloete, Lucas Healey & Joe Hinson
