Our mission at Boomtown is to capture the energy and excitement of the festival – and live sets have formed a crucial part of our approach in recent years.

While the main aftermovie captures the spirit of the festival as a whole, packing an entire weekend into a 10-minute package requires ruthlessness in the edit suite!

Filming longer live sets allows festivalgoers to relive some of their favourite moments and to catch up on any acts they might have missed – as well as showcasing Boomtown’s wide range of artists and genres for anyone yet to experience the festival.

This year our focus was on the Town Centre and Lion’s Den stages stage which hosted a series of incredible live acts such as GorillazEnter Shikari, Dubioza Kolectiv, and Sleaford Mods.

We used a five-strong team to cover each set using Sony FS7 and A7SII cameras. Boomtown is renowned for its high energy atmosphere so we also employed two Gimbal operators who could keep up with all the action while capturing stunning smooth shots. Oh – and we threw in a drone for good measure!

Senior creative Chris Light:

“Filming live sets represents a completely different challenge to shooting a highlights package. Every second matters as you never know which of your shots may be required. Then there’s the endurance side of things. Filming live sets is intense and requires a lot of energy to maintain focus when shooting back-to-back – but the buzz you get from being up close for some incredible performances helps keep you going!”
